A First

The words Food and Wine are not just the name of a magazine. Both food and wine (any spirit) can invoke a culture’s passions and inject life and fond memories into a situation. It is why the smell of honey buns in the morning can remind you of a childhood memory of time spent with a loved one. Or how making pasta can revive the feelings you have for your Nonna. Our love for food and wine is a significant fabric of humanity. In celebration or grief, food and wine have shaped our memories. I still remember my wife’s college graduation dinner where I proposed or the neat pour of Jonnie Walker Blue Label, which I have each year on the anniversary of my father’s passing. Those are some of the food and wine memories that move me.

My career path did not take me into the food and beverage industry. I am just a computer nerd with a passion for culinary things. Like others, I have succumbed to the allure of food and wine! I can honestly say I live to eat and drink. My gastro indulgence badge is proof of such addiction. More experiences, you ask, absolutely; I have planned a vacation based on the ability to acquire reservations at a dope restaurant. My only active social media account contains images and videos of various food topics. The only thing I have yet to do is drag my friends or family out of bed before the sun rises to queue in front of a restaurant to ensure you can get the goods before they run out. But I am sure this will happen at some point.

I am not a writer. Thank goodness this is just a diary. I am still figuring out my true motivation for sharing my experiences on this digital medium. I hope people are kind in response if they ever read, and I inspire someone to find their food thing. Writing about these experiences is better than subjecting people to my flurry of “Um,” “Ah,” and “you know” on a YouTube video. However, that day will come, and I need to get comfortable being on camera. One day, as the saying goes. Here is the second action established in the post for future food activities. Who knew writing could help you plan out goals?

Speaking of goals, wine school starts this week. I am nervous about the Level 3 WSET certification. There is a lot of information to learn about in 10 weeks. But just as the snowflake on my YouTube video completes its digitally planned path from the virtual sky to Earth, I, too, will get this certification completed. Slow, erratic movements with purpose but subject to influence from others, eventually completing its journey. That is the snowflake; be the snowflake. Okay, that is odd, but I get the analogy.

What else is going on in life? I was a full participant in dry January and wanted to start February off with some good Vino. The dry January experience was not bad. I consumed my fair share of tea and now believe my body craves the extra caffeine. That is a problem for another day. The evening of February 1st started with a 2019 Ridge Zinfandel. A good gentleman named Michael from NY supplied me with a delightful champagne for the second act. The champagne was a 2007 Charles Ellner Seduction Brut. Both wines paired with a small charcuterie board set up by my wife. My wife’s charcuterie board-making is dope, and I hope to share some pics of her work on IG. Over the weekend, I tried Cuvee De Reserve Brut by Pierre Peters (very lovely) and a Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon (outstanding). I believe this is enough for a first post; it’s time to start preparing for school.

Eat, Drink, and Live well!
